Madi just returned home from her Aunt and Uncles’ house. She spent a week visiting her two adorable cousins; kira and Maya. I think the week went pretty well from what I have heard but there is still a lot of fighting between them. I like to believe that it is their age. Only separated by 6 months, there is going to be some arguing. She had a lot of stories to tell me about dressing up, going swimming, visiting the zoo and riding bikes. Chris went to get her on Friday and they ended the week with a float trip. Madi loved it but I think she was ready to come home to Mom. It makes me happy that she is able to spend time away from her parents, miss us but still allow herself to have a good time. I was worried about that the most. Oh and also the fighting. I didn’t want Taisia to lose her mind with the addition of my child in her household and hopefully she didn’t. Taisia? Are you still alive?

She arrived in town late Saturday night and I got the early phone call on Sunday at 8:00 am. “Momma, are you awake? I am ready to come home.” So I rolled out of bed and met my ball of energy on the front porch. She was talking a mile a minute about 50 different things that she did in the past week. When her Dad left she crawled in my lap on the front porch and gave me the biggest hug she has ever given me. Having her back is good and I feel like I always do when she has been gone a few days; she has grown a lot. She says new things and has new stories to tell. I love having her home because it never feels right without her.

I thought a lot (probably too much) about the possibility that I may not have a new job in October. I thought about this while she was gone because when she is home I barely have the time to think. I may not be getting a job right away and I think that is going to be ok. I will manage and I will have more time for Madi. Something that I have wanted for a long time. I have missed out on a lot of things and let others do them for me. Like picking Madi up every day from school and being there to hear about her day. I want that and I know Madi wants that.

I have also been thinking a lot about music and how Madi used to listen to it every night, all night when she was a baby. And she rested. Lately she hasn’t been sleeping all that great. I can tell she is tired when she gets up and this will only get worse when school starts. So this weekend I bought something she has been asking for. An early birthday present. I bought her an iPod of her own so that she can listen to music while she is going to sleep instead of watching a movie. Last night was the first night and boy could I tell a difference. Maybe it was being home and comfy or maybe it was the iPod. All I know is I woke up to find her in my bed, bright eyed, ear phones on and dancing around the bed to her favorite music. This made me smile and right now I am smiling as I type this.

I hope that this makes her feel safe when she is drifting off to sleep. I also hope this puts a lot of dust on the TV because she stops asking to watch it. I would much rather hear music blaring from her room instead of some Disney movie with very little meaning. She told me last night that she has been writing songs and I can’t wait until she learns to write. Because the songs she has in her head are beautiful and funny, just like her. So now I feel like I am more plugged in as a parent and Madi feels more plugged into music. That’s not a bad thing, right?

This is an all-in-one post because so much has been going on. I wanted to post something because it has been so long since I have updated this site. So here are some new things to get you all caught up on the happenings in our lives:

There is a new guy in my life (His name is Ryen – more on that later…)

Madi got a new dog – her name is Chloe Bear and she is a Great Pyrenees

My Dad is sick and has been in the hospital for 2 weeks

We cooked our first turkey for Easter

Taylor went to his first Prom and dressed like a total nerd

Madi attended her first “Real” concert and got to see Ryen play and also went on stage with him (highlight of her night)

For those of you who know my Dad – He is holding his own and doing better than we could have ever hoped for. He is getting stronger every day and we are all holding hope that he will make a full recovery. I have spent the last two weeks second guessing everything I have said or not said to him. I now know that none of that matters – he is with us now and I am taking every opportunity to tell him all those things, that for over 48 hours, I never thought I would have the chance to say again.

I know that you have all heard this at some point in your life – Don’t take things for granted, tell the people in your life that you love them, spend time with the ones you love – quality time. We truly do not know how long we have on this earth and the last thing you want is to be standing next to a hospital bed wishing you had said something or done something differently. It is a hopeless and lonely feeling, one that can be prevented by slowing down and enjoying the friends and family around you.

Check out the Flickr badge on the right for the newest pictures of the family. Love to you all!

I took this picture at the last game I attended. The original picture is a little out of focus but it was the only one that really showed how well he jumps. Taylor and I share a hobby of sorts. We both like to take crappy pictures and fix them with really cool online tools. This one was saved by Picnik which is quickly becoming my editor of choice. I have Photo Shop CS, Paint Shop Pro X and several others but this one is quick and easy. Plus you can take pictures of your kids and make them look 10 feet tall with the cool tools included. Although parts of it is free the really cool parts are not. But for 24.95 a year, I couldn’t pass it up.

Last night Madi and I picked up Taylor to go shopping. He has three different camps he is going to this year and he needed new shoes. We made a deal that if I bought him shoes he would put together Madi’s swing set for her. I don’t have the swing set as of yet but I am working on it. So last night was mall night and we really did have a lot of fun~!

I love watching Taylor and Madi walk side by side. He is over 6 feet tall and all legs. She is this bouncy little 4 year old and barely hits him at his knees. Every store that we went to seemed to be playing loud dance music. Madi danced and Taylor looked at shoes. But the thing that impresses me about Taylor is he never stopped paying attention to Madi. He danced along with her while trying on shoes. When he found a pair that he thought he liked, he ran down the isle because Madi insisted that you HAD to do this before a shoe purchase. He complied with everything she asked of him and I really think he had a good time doing it. There are not many 16 year old boys that would think it was cool to hang out with their Aunt and 4 year old cousin at the mall. Of course I was buying him shoes….

Madi is in love with the photo booths at the mall. We have had our pictures taken in one almost every time we visit. Last night she asked Taylor if he would have his picture taken with her, he said “Sure!” and off they ran to the photo booth. He took one strip of pictures and I took the other. He told Madi that he was going to hang them in his bedroom on his dresser mirror and you should have seen the huge smile on her face. Madi never asked for a single thing at the mall. She was just happy to be walking next to the tower of skinny arms and legs. Ok, he really isn’t skinny anymore and it makes me sad to say that. He is growing into an adult faster than I would like but he is a great “kid”.

We drove him home to “insert far away place here” and it was late when we pulled in his driveway. Madi was so tired but still asked Taylor if he would play basketball with her. I know that Taylor was probably ready to go in and call his girlfriend but he shot baskets with Madi for 30 minutes before I finally pried her away from him. I couldn’t be more proud of Taylor right now – Straight A’s, Perfect Attendance, The Art Award and JV Basketball – All of this and he still has time to shoot baskets with a 4 year old. We don’t see him as much as we would like to but we will enjoy every minute that we get!

I have to share an email exchange between Taisia and I. It is too good not to keep record of and I am sure that Kira and Maddie will be so happy that I did. Maybe. If not, Taisia told me to do it.
To: Taisia
From: Lorie
Taisia,

After I got off the phone last night Maddie was really curious about our conversation. She knew I was talking to you and I didn’t realize that she was staring at me from the kitchen the entire time. These days she is really interested in “female related topics”. I don’t want to give you too much information but she thinks that certain times of the month I wear a leap pad and because I am not quite sure how to explain the female cycle, she thinks they make me jump higher. I know, bad information but what do you say to a three year old without freaking them out?

So anyway, last night she was really concerned about the tone of my conversation. I was concerned about you (as always because I love you) and I guess it came across in my voice. After I hung up the phone she immediately wanted to know what was wrong. I said nothing is wrong, Aunt Taisia will be having her baby soon. She said, is she having her now? No, but I think she will be here is a few weeks and then we can hold her. Then she wanted to know where the baby comes out. And yes I had to use the big V word that Chris loves to hear so much. Except Maddie calls it “bajina” so maybe no one will notice when she blurts it out in public. I had to set her straight because she thought that babies come from your butt and while it is fine and dandy for her to think that my maxi pad makes me jump higher, it is NOT ok for her to think that her baby cousin came out of your butt.

And with that story I will end this email! Love to you all!

Lorie

From: Taisia

To: LorieHA! Oh my, that is so funny. Thanks for correcting her because I would hate for this child to be known as “butt baby” or something gross like that. That is very funny. And why would she think your pad makes you jump higher – was that hers or your idea?It reminds me of the other day when Kira and I were talking about how strawberry milk is a combination of strawberries and milk, and chocolate milk is from chocolate and milk. Then she asked about where regular milk comes from. I said “from a cow” and she said “is it the cow’s pee-pee?” It cracked me up but I had to set her straight very quickly because I don’t want her telling people that her mommy’s makes her drink cow’s pee. Oh, and with the strawberry milk thing she wanted to hear a story about it so we made up this story about how Maddie was running around with a cup of milk and Kira was running around with some strawberries. They ran into each other and the strawberries fell into the cup of milk. Then according to the story Kira said “oh I have an idea – let’s drink it”. Then Maddie said “yeah, and let’s call it strawberry milk”. Kira loved the story!!

Love,

Taisia

This morning Maddie headed out with Nana G. to visit Terry and Taisia’s house. She was a little confused and worried about what was going on. I told her she was going with Nana G. on a road trip to see Kira but she wasn’t sure how she was getting to Nana G. This shouldn’t be that hard to figure out but she was making it really hard. She asked who was going to work and I said Mom and Dad. She asked “But who will stay with me?” and I said no one is staying with you, I will drop you off and Nana G.’s house and you will leave from there.

She was running around the house this morning staying very close so that I wouldn’t forget her. She kept saying “I don’t even know how to drive, someone needs to stay with me.” She had to get her lip gloss and four quarters to take with her. Two quarters for her and two for Kira. She then began telling me what they were going to buy with their money.

I know that she will be fine in the car but it is hard letting her go any distance without me. It is getting a little easier and it does make a huge difference that she really, really wants to go. I don’t think I would let her go if she wasn’t so darn excited about seeing her cousin.

That is the fun part, seeing her with her cousin. She has talked about her all week. She can’t wait to see her! I can’t wait to see her either so I hope she gets all the hugs and kisses she wants because when I get there Kira will be all mine. Well at least until Jason and Pilly get there.

Dear Kira,
Today you had your 2nd birthday party. It is hard to believe that you are already two years old. And it’s even harder to believe how fast you are growing and changing. I notice you changing more than I notice your cousin Maddie changing because I get to see her everyday. I don’t see you as often as I would like so when I see you it is always exciting and fun.

I know that when you are old enough to read this you may wonder why we call you Baby Kira. Well, your cousin Maddie calls you her baby Kira and gets really excited when we talk about visiting you. I know that this is probably the last year that we get to call you that becuase you are no longer a baby, you are now a very beautiful little girl. You are now running, talking, playing and you are so much fun to be around. Your personality has changed so much in the last few months. You were once a very shy but happy baby. And suddenly you changed to a very outgoing little girl. I know your Mom and Dad were getting concerned that you might always be shy. I bet they will soon miss the times when you wanted to stay very close to them. Because now you seem very excited to talk to us, play with us, hug and on occasion you will smother us with your sweet kisses.

I was thinking about how much you have changed and I decided to put together a list of some of the things that I love about you (I couldn’t possibly list them all!) because I know that next year and the year after that the list will continue to change.

1) I love your smile! That smile is so infectious, there is no way I could ever be sad when I am with you. The entire room lights up and you truly are a happy little girl.
2) Your laugh is so unique that if you are in another room, we all know who is laughing because yours is different from all the rest. It is that kind of laugh that makes everyone else giggle.
3) I love the way you say ‘more’. I try to get you to say it at least 100 times when I am with you. I do that because I know that someday you will start saying the word like everyone else and I will miss the way you say it now. It sounds like ‘moyeeee’. When you say that word it reminds me of the chinese accent and it makes me smile everytime I hear it. After we have spent the weekend with you Maddie often starts saying the word like you. Probably because I make you say it so much when we are with you that Maddie alters her speech because of it. But after a few days she stops and I begin missing you again.
4) I like to watch you run. You run with very short steps but the look on your face is of someone who is running very fast. I look at your feet and they are taking quick tiny steps. This may seem silly to you but adults are crazy that way.
5) I am so happy that you will come to me. You will walk up to me and put your hands up to be held. You will sit in the car with me (even before you know that I have gummy worms to share). You have developed a wonderful sense of humor. At your party I sat next to you while we ate. I started counting the grapes on your plate. Before I could count the last one on the plate you would snatch it up and eat it. Then you would laugh that wonderful laugh of yours. That continued until all the grapes were gone and then you looked at me and said “moyeeee”!

Happy Birthday Baby Kira! You are very much loved and I can’t wait to see you again soon!

Love,
Crazy Aunt Lorie
