Blog Content (or lack thereof)

It has been a while since I have posted anything on this site. It is not due to lack of content. I have plenty to write about. As a matter of fact, I have 3 posts written but I need to go back and do some editing before I post them. For those of you who check my blog, I am still here! Yes, I am writing this post for approx. three people and the occasional lurker who accidently comes to my site looking for physchosis medication. There is no medication here, nor is there any advice. So keep going…nothing to see here.

For those of you that come to see Maddie. She will be featured here in a few hours after I feed her, bathe her and put her crabby butt to bed. Then, MAYBE, just maybe, I will have enough time to post something worth reading.

Check below for older posts that were submitted tonight…

Dick’s Five & Dime

We visited a place that holds many happy memories of my childhood. Downtown Branson, Dick’s Five and Dime. Est. 1926, isles packed with wonderful things like the clapping monkey, marbles, shot glasses and hillbilly crafts. My parents took us there a few times, gave us a dollar and let us loose. We spent at least an hour trying to decide how we would spend that dollar. Inevitably, we would change our minds 10 times and come out of the store with a sack full of candy. So today, Maddie left the store the same way. Candy in hand and a smile on her face. We spent $1.30 and by the look on her face you would have thought we spent $100.

The Greatest Show On Earth?

The Circus is in town! Woo-Hoo! I took Maddie tonight even though I swore last year would be our last trip to the Circus. I forgot about how expensive it is and how sad it makes me to see dogs wearing dresses. Not to mention the sad look in the Elephants eyes as they are being led around in a circle with a load of 6 kids on their backs.

I took Maddie because I knew that she would love it and she is young enough that she does not experience the sadness that I do at my age. I am old enough to know that those animals are treated poorly and yet I went anyway and supported the Circus with my hard earned cash. And man! The cash I left behind, never again. At least that is what I say this year.

There is a sticker in my cubicle at work that reads “The Circus is no fun for Elephants”. Oh, the hypocrisy. The one thing that Maddie was really excited about was riding an Elephant. Why? Because when I picked her up at Daycare, her favorite teacher said “Maddie, make sure you ride the Elephant!” Thank you Miss Kristy! My morals were tested and I failed miserably. Of course I purchased the ticket and Maddie rode the Elephant. Her face was beaming, she was scared at first but then bravery kicked in and she climbed those steps and rode the sad Elephant.

We left at intermission because I could not take another hour of torture. Maddie thought the Circus was over so she had no idea that her Mother cheated her out of the grand event which probably involved bears riding bicycles and that leads me to the next moral dilema. The other sticker in my cubicle reads “Bears do not belong on bikes!” At least I was able to leave with my head held high knowing that I would not be clapping for the poor bears with thier muzzles on and their paws strapped to the pedals.

So I leave you with this image: Maddie and the Elephant ride that cost $7.00

The Moxie Rocks!

This past weekend was as good as it gets. There were several reasons for this: extended weekend, visit from family and a movie at the Moxie. I have only visited the theater twice and walking in the door feels like walking into a different era. I love the atmosphere, the movies they play and the fact that they serve beer/wine is a plus as well.

The movie of choice this time around was Transamerica. A little disturbing for me and it actually made me ill on a certain level. Felicity Huffman was phenomenal and she should have won an Oscar. The movie really made me think and I like that about the movies at the Moxie. There were no other theaters in our town who were brave enough to show the film. I am so accustomed to mainstream films and the last two movies have actually invoked a lot of action in my brain which unfortunatley doesn’t happen often enough these days.

I should explain that the film did indeed make me physically ill. During intermission my face was feeling hot and I was getting a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. The only explanation that I have for these feelings is that I kept imagining my nephew. I tried to stop but I couldn’t. If you have seen the film you may understand why I had these thoughts. The character who played Bree’s son was molested by his step-father, became a drug addict and later became a prostitute. This is the part where I started feeling as though my face was about to burst into flames. The reason my nephew entered my thoughts during the movie was the actors haircut. I know that sounds absurd but it’s true. When I first saw him I thought “He has hair just like Taylor”. And then BAM! There was Taylors face and it wouldn’t go away.

Other than the nauseous feeling from time to time the movie was great and I would recommend it to those who are open minded and maybe those who are not. This movie may open your eyes to a different way of thinking. That’s the great thing about having your own opinion. It’s yours and that’s something you get to keep for yourself.

I can’t wait for April 1st – I will going to see ‘Why We Fight’ with a co-worker/friend and then out to dinner. She is someone who loves documentaries and will also explain all the politics which I am sure will confuse me. I received a D- in History. I think it would be a good idea for me to learn because I would like to at least help Maddie learn the names of our first presidents. This is something they are probably teaching in Kindergarten by now and I would be lucky to name the first five. Thank God for Google…
